Worth Bat Labeling

This section reviews the bat labeling of Worth bats over the years of 1983 to the present. Again, a special thanks and credit goes out to Tim Lee a columnist with Sports Collectors Digest who has documented much of the labeling of modern bats.

1983-1988(approx)

CENTERBRAND: As seen in the picture below the words "MODEL 500T" are found over the "O" and "R" in the word "WORTH" which is prominently displayed in the centerbrand. "WORTH" has outlined (ie not filled in) letters that in total are about 51/2 inches long. A ® symbol is located in between the lower legs of the "H" in "WORTH." Directly below the word "WORTH" are the words "TULLAHOMA, TENNESSEE MADE IN U.S.A." in much smaller print, located below and between the "W" and "H" in the word "WORTH." To the right of the centerbrand are the words "TENNESSEE" over "THUMPER" diagonally on the bat.

BARREL: As pictured below, the barrel of the bat from this time period bears three lines of writing. The top level has the words "Hand Crafted" in script writing, the second level has the player's name in block letters, the third and bottom level has the word "MODEL." (Note: in the minor league version of the bats during this period the word "MODEL" with a model number appears in place of the player's name.)

KNOB: The knob of the bat bears the player's initial over the last whole number (or whole number and fraction) in the length of the bat (ie 5 = 35 inch bat; 4½ = 34½ inch bat). Below the length code is the model number of the bat. (Note: some bats will not bear the player's initials, but this is by mistake).

STRIPING: Worth bats from all eras also will bear striping to the left of the centerbrand. There are two stripes during this period, each are approximately 3/16 of an inch wide and circle the bat, they are about ½ of an inch apart and 6 inches to the left of the centerbrand.

1988(approx)-1989

CENTERBRAND: the "WORTH" in the centerbrand is now solid rather than outlined with the ® symbol remaining in the same position. A new trademark appeared over the word "WORTH" which consisted of two rectangles leaning to the right to form a "W" with a circle on the left all within a circle and directly above the "R" in "WORTH." A "TM" symbol was also placed within this circle. Beneath the word "WORTH" were the words "MODEL 500T TULLAHOMA, TENNESSEE MADE IN U.S.A." located below and between the "W" and the "H" in "WORTH." The diagonal words "TENNESSEE THUMPER" are still to the right of the centerbrand, but "THUMPER" is in filled in type rather than the outlined type. All the remaining labeling on the barrel and knob remained the same.

1990-1991

CENTERBRAND: In this period Worth removed the words "TENNESSEE THUMPER" from the right of the centerbrand. Also the words "MODEL 500T" were removed from the string of words below "WORTH" in the centerbrand. The remaining words "Tullahoma, TN Made in U.S.A.," now not all in caps, were stretched to reach from below the "W" to the "H" in "WORTH." Everything else stayed the same.

STRIPING: The striping was moved closer to the centerbrand of the bat. The barrel and knob labeling stayed the same.

1992-1995

CENTERBRAND: As pictured below, a new logo to go above the word "WORTH" was created, this time with two rectangles leaning to the left to form the letter "W," within a circle. There is no longer a TM symbol with this logo. Further, the ® symbol formerly within the bottom legs of the "H" in "WORTH" was moved to the right of the "H" and the type face for the word "WORTH" was changed to a more square type. The remainder of the labeling stayed the same.
