Easton Bats

As discussed on this site in late 1999, Easton Sports has entered the wood bat market by purchasing Stix Baseball. As of June 2000 we had already seen some Easton wood bats on the game used bat market.

The following is a press release from the Easton Sports web page:

Easton Unveils Pro Quality Wood Bats - Acquisition
Delivers Major League Exposure for Top Brand

Van Nuys, CA - February 1, 2000 -- Easton Sports, known for pioneering aluminum bats and technologically-advanced sporting equipment, announced it has acquired wood bat manufacturer, Stix Baseball, out of Kissimmee, FL and has begun making wood bats under the Easton brand name, according to Mike Zlaket, Easton's vice president of baseball/softball.

"Easton's move into wood raises our brand visibility in the Major Leagues and ensures our continuing dominance at the international level," Zlaket said. "By providing both aluminum and wood bat options under the Easton name, players will be able to stick with us from youth baseball all the way up to the major leagues, knowing they have the best in innovation and quality. Over a number of years, and with the help of some superb craftsmen, Stix has perfected the wood bat and we are proud to have access to their capabilities."

Already almost 100 Major League Baseball players will be using the Easton wood bats in 2000. Made of the finest Northern white ash by craftsmen who have created custom bats for professional players for years, the new bats will initially be available only at the professional level and at selected retailers.
